Relief Guardian Editorial Team
How we research, write, and maintain our debt relief reviews and educational content — and why you can trust what we publish.
Who We Are
The Relief Guardian Editorial Team is a group of financial researchers and consumer advocates with extensive experience in the debt relief industry. Our team brings over 30 years of combined industry experience — including direct experience working within the debt relief space — which gives us a practical, ground-level understanding of how these programs actually work for consumers.
Relief Guardian was founded on a straightforward premise: consumers making decisions about debt relief deserve accurate, independent information — not marketing dressed up as research. We built this platform to fill that gap.
We are not a debt relief company. We do not enroll consumers in programs. We do not negotiate debts on anyone's behalf. Our sole function is to research providers, evaluate programs, and present that information in a way that helps consumers make informed decisions.
Our Editorial Principles
Editorial Independence
Our editorial content is produced independently of our business relationships. Referral fees from providers never influence our ratings, written assessments, or recommendations. Companies cannot pay to improve their scores.
Transparent Methodology
Every company review follows the same structured evaluation framework covering fees, state availability, accreditation, customer reviews, program transparency, and technology. Our scoring criteria are published and applied consistently.
Primary Research
We review company websites, program agreements, regulatory filings, and accreditation records. We also analyze verified customer reviews across the BBB, Trustpilot, Google, and other platforms — not just the reviews companies choose to highlight.
Regular Updates
The debt relief industry changes frequently — companies adjust fees, enter or exit states, gain or lose accreditations, and change ownership. We update reviews on a quarterly cadence and immediately when significant changes occur.
Fact Verification
All factual claims about fees, state availability, accreditation status, and program details are verified against primary sources. When information cannot be independently confirmed, we say so.
How We Score Company Reviews
Every company review is evaluated across five equally weighted categories. Each category is scored 1–5, and the overall rating is a weighted composite of all five scores.
| Category | Weight |
|---|---|
| Fees & Program Cost | 20% |
| Customer Service | 20% |
| Results & Settlements | 20% |
| Transparency | 20% |
| Accreditation | 20% |
How ReliefGuardian Makes Money
ReliefGuardian earns referral fees when visitors click through to a company and enroll in a program. This is how we fund our research and keep our content free.
These fees do not influence our ratings, written reviews, or the order in which companies appear in our comparison tools. Companies with the highest referral fees do not receive higher scores. Companies with lower fees are not penalized.
We believe in full transparency: if you enroll in a program after clicking a link from ReliefGuardian, the provider will pay us a fee. The program cost to you is the same regardless of whether you arrived through our site or directly.
